Search Engine Optimization
or "SEO" is the practice editing and modifying a website
for optimum performance and search engine friendliness.
Search engines such as Google and Yahoo like to see websites built
a certain way. They like to see websites that are simple and easy
to understand, text that is clear and easy to read, links that are
easy to follow and so on. They don't like websites that are complicated
and confusing to themselves, or for the end user.
The key in properly optimizing a website is knowing exactly how
much optimization a website will require in order to achieve good
results without going overboard.
Too much optimization can be very detrimental to a website. An over-optimized
website can be penalized by the search engines with poor placement
in their search results or even ban the offending website depending
on the severity of the over optimization. On the other hand too
little optimization may keep you from getting penalized or banned
however, it may also not produce the search results required to
sell your product or service.
